1m F/8 Ritchey Chrétien with dual Nasmyth Foci, Cape Town (South Africa)

Another large telescope for the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO). An 1m F/8 Alt-Az mounted Ritchey Chrétien for robotic use. It has dual Nasmyth Foci. The main telescopes used for research are located at the SAAO observing station (32°22.795’S 20°48,657’E) near Sutherland in the Northern Cape, a 4-hour drive from Cape Town.

Chroma LRGB Filter Set
This filter set contains one filter each for red, green and blue, which allows the creation of color images with monochrome cameras (tri-color photography).

In addition, there is a luminance filter for the entire light range covered by the three filters, which, due to the shorter exposure time, enables a monochrome image with less effective air turbulence and thus higher image sharpness. Because the sharpness information for the human eye lies mainly in the differences in brightness, the lower sharpness of the color images is not important.

All transmission and blocking (OD) data are actual, measured spectra of representative production lots. Spectra varies slightly from lot to lot. Optical density values in excess of 6 may appear noisy because such evaluations push the resolution limit of low light level measurements.

 

LRGB Filters combined with H-Alpha Filters (3nm, 5nm or 8nm)

This filter set contains one filter each for red, green and blue, which allows the creation of color images with monochrome cameras (tri-color photography).
In addition, there is a luminance filter for the entire light range covered by the three filters, which, due to the shorter exposure time, enables a monochrome image with less effective air turbulence and thus higher image sharpness. Because the sharpness information for the human eye lies mainly in the differences in brightness, the lower sharpness of the color images is not important.
Furthermore, an H-alpha filter (3nm, 5nm or 8nm) is included, which significantly increases the contrast of most emission nebulae even under brightened skies.
