Another large telescope for the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO). An 1m F/8 Alt-Az mounted Ritchey Chrétien for robotic use. It has dual Nasmyth Foci. The main telescopes used for research are located at the SAAO observing station (32°22.795’S 20°48,657’E) near Sutherland in the Northern Cape, a 4-hour drive from Cape Town.

Calibrations modul eShel II

img 7403 calibration unit 140x204 1 It delivers the various light sources used to calibrate the spectrum:

Thorium-Argon lamp with high-voltage power supply
A tungsten lamp for blaze treatment
A “LED” lamp for identifying orders during spectrum processing

The calibration module can be controlled directly from the acquisition software (Demetra, or even Audela) via an RS 232 interface. It also remotely controls the FIGU mirror for source selection (calibration or telescope flux).
