Direct drive instead of a worm gear
The key feature of all ASA mounts is the Direct Drive. Instead of traditional worm gears, high-resolution encoders and powerful direct-drive motors are used. This virtually eliminates all mechanical play, and the mount responds instantly to control commands. The result is extremely low periodicity, which often eliminates the need for autoguiding – an advantage that is particularly important in professional astrophotography.
High rigidity and load-bearing capacity
ASA relies on solid CNC-machined components and optimised geometries. The mounts are designed to show virtually no deflection, even under heavy loads. This enables long focal lengths, large instruments and stable tracking, even under difficult conditions. Many observatories use ASA mounts for scientific projects precisely for this reason.
Software and Automation
With the in-house control system ASA DDM Control and integration into professional software environments, ASA mounts can be fully automated. Plate-solving, sky modelling, correction for flexure and atmospheric refraction – all of this is part of the system. This makes ASA mounts suitable not only for amateur astronomers, but also for remote observatories and research stations.
